Original tilt steering column :

The steering column was completedly disassembled in order to make an inventory of the internal little pieces that should be restored or replaced. Aditionally to stablish the functionallity back as it was 40 years ago, the decision was to work in the aesthetic too. So, a high quality job paint were performed in the parts that gets visible by the driver and the long hidden tubing -in the side that goes to the engine compartiment- was polished and professionally chromed.

One of the most noticeable features of the steering column is the ability to collapse in presence of a frontal impact. The part that is in the engine compartiment consist on two concentric tubes so the most interior may advance inside the other one, allowing to absorve part of the impact energy and to avoid the steering to enter directly to the driver.

Special attention was taken to replace all bearings and any defect gear for a total soft drive experience

06/04/09 : The "Lock Bolt Spring" ...

It exist a little spring that locks the steering column with the key in off position. Any GM tilt column from 69 to 77 have it. See part 19 :

With the gently help of Gene ( gene@1stgencamaro.net ), it was possible to get with the spring in a U.S. shop and get it here by postal mail, directly into my office :

The little spring gets here in perfect state and got back the steering lock functionallity.

Feb 26, 2009 : Dressing...

Functionallity is in good shape but chromes are opaque and that can be improved. The dust in the false ring must be cleaned.

Apparently clean : one of them still has dust.
